Nicola Cassells is an award winning singer from Scotland. Dubbed as 'The Girl with The Golden Voice', Nicola won the Next Retail Trust Search For A Star Competition and is a wonderful talent.

Alan Frew

Alan Frew performs as part of the Sounds From Scotland Online Concert 19th July 2020.

Alan Frew is a singer songwriter and guitarist from Prestwick in Ayrshire, Scotland just 5 miles from the famous Robert Burns cottage in Alloway.

Alan grew up listening to all forms of grassroots music absorbing many genres from Bossa jazz to country blues and Americana and in turn defining his own tangible style.

Citing his father the late Ian Frew, also a singer songwriter, guitarist along with John Martyn and Joao Gilberto as influences Alan produced his debut album ‘Go Easy’ in 2010 to wide acclaim.

Since beginning a songwriting career and during his time playing with local bands Alan opened for Scottish acts Paolo Nutini and Texas before going solo and playing supports to king of country guitar Albert Lee, Irish folk legend Sharon Shannon and jazz virtuoso Martin Taylor.

Craig Weir

Craig Weir performs as part of the Sounds From Scotland Online Concert 19th July 2020

Craig Weir is a hugely talented multi-instrumentalist from Scotland. A wonderful piper Craig also fronts two incredible bands, Gleadhraich and Craig Weir & The Cabalistic Cavalry. Craig has previously performed with Gleadhraich at New York Tartan Week and has also performed with us at the ASF at our Bryant Park Fountain on The Terrace Afternoon Concert as part of New York Tartan Week.

In this performance Craig gave us an intimate and memorable experience to enjoy.

Mike Nisbet

On June 21st the American Scottish Foundation was proud to take part in the online programming to celebrate the Summer Solstice with Make Music New York, this formed the very first of our Sounds From Scotland series.

Mike Nisbet performed an intimate set for us as part of our Sounds From Scotland Online Concert on June 21st 2020. Originally from Oban on Scotland's West coast, Mike now lives in London. A hugely talented musician Mike has released a number of albums to critical acclaim and is currently working on his next album to be released later in the year.

Jamie McGeechan

Jamie McGeechan (Little Fire) performs as part of our Sounds From Scotland Online Concert June 21st.

Jamie is a singer songwriter from Ayrshire, now resident in Saint Louis, MO who has previously performed with Damien Rice, Joan Armatrading, Dougie MacLean and Eddi Reader.

Making history as the first person to record inside Burns Cottage in Alloway, Ayrshire Jamie regularly performs at Scottish festivals and events around the world. Jamie has recorded two albums, 'High Hopes', the Scottish Album of The Year Award nominated 'Midnight Kingdom' and a short album of Burns songs, recorded inside Burns Cottage in Alloway.

Jamie is an ambassador for the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, World Peace Tartan and the American Scottish Foundation.

Laura McGhee

On June 21st the American Scottish Foundation was proud to take part in the online programming to celebrate the Summer Solstice with Make Music New York, this formed the very first of our Sounds From Scotland series.

Laura McGhee is an immensely talented multi-instrumentalist and singer songwriter from Dundee in Scotland.

Laura, a great friend to the ASF has performed for us many wonderful times at events such as our Fountain on the Terrace Concerts in Bryant Park as part of New York Tartan Week.

Laura is a hugely accomplished musician:

Landing her first show in America with legendary folk icon Pete Seeger at the Symphony Space on Broadway NYC. In her career so far she has had the pleasure of working with many of her idols and her first USA album release "Celticana" reached the top 40 of the Americana chart, unprecedented for a Scottish artist. While living in Nashville Laura toured with John Carter Cash and John McEuen all over the USA, she also performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN with the Nashville Celts. Since moving back to Scotland Laura has released her new album "Life is Bigger than A Dream" available on iTunes.

In this performance Laura gave us an intimate and memorable experience to enjoy.
