John Muir Charity Golf Tournament: Supporting Summer Youth Employment in Van Cortlandt Park

Please join us at the Foundation's Eleventh Annual John Muir Charity Golf Tournament. The Tournament will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course, the country's oldest public golf course. The course, designed by a Scot, is in excellent condition. At the conclusion of your round, you will be greeted at the covered outdoor deck overlooking a lake by a whisky tasting and sounds of a Scottish ceilidh band playing Scottish ballads. To complete the feel good factor, Van Cortlandt Park Golf, LLC, operator of the course, has made the Tournament is its designated charity thereby maximizing the proceeds going to Van Cortlandt Park Summer internship program for Bronx youths.

Tournament registration begins at 11:30 and closes at 12:30 to ensure a prompt tee-off at 1pm. Foursomes or individual players are welcome. An application is enclosed to register. Registrations are limited to 76 players and taken in the order received. Also enclosed is a sponsor agreement if, as is hoped, you wish to lend further support to the cause. May 8 is the deadline for sponsorship commitment; May 23rd for player commitment. While major sponsorships are important, I wish to emphasize the fact that sponsorship at any level and participation will be much appreciated.

The Tournament salutes John Muir, a great American-Scot, Father of the U.S. National Park Service and Founder of the Sierra Club and funds the Park's highly successful summer internship program. Most notably, the summer work experience has changed many lives, as the Foundation's 50th Anniversary DVD shows through filming of participants at work in the summer program of 2006; the year of ASF's 50th Anniversary. The DVD is accessible on ASF's website at www.americanscottishfoundation.com.

Tournament partners are New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, The Friends of Van Cortlandt Park, Van Cortlandt Park Golf LLC, and the Kiwi Club of North America. This year the Tournament welcomes Van Cortlandt Park Golf LLC, the course's new operator, and The Kiwi Club of New York, which will be providing the barbecue dinner.

The Tournament's "scramble/best ball" format encourages participation at all levels and its informal nature encourages networking among participants. The event is very good value. Non-golfers, particularly spouses and significant others, are welcome to join in the post Tournament Awards Dinner that includes, in addition to the barbecue, a whisky tasting, entertainment, a raffle and a variety of awards.

On behalf of all associated with the Tournament, We extend the invitation to join us on the 30th. You and your guests are guaranteed a most enjoyable outing while benefiting from the knowledge that a very good cause is being supported!
