Castle of Mey was the Queen Mother's home in Caithness, Scotland. Christina Murray, wife of the Castle Administrator, has written a beautiful book Taste of Mey with recipes from the Castle. The book is filled with affectionate stories of the Castle, from a host of contributors, alongside encounters and fond memories of The Queen Mother; never-before-seen photographs of life on the Royal Estate; and delicious dishes– many of which were favourites of The Queen Mother, and the recipes for which are divulged for the very first time.

Christina has come to know this historical gem of a building incredibly well over the past ten years. She cares about its past, present and future, as well as the locals that hold the Castle in such rightful esteem. It is Christina's interest in and affection for the Castle of Mey, The Queen Mother, and her own passion for delicious food, along with her determination for this project to succeed, that has brought A Taste of Mey from the original genius idea to a fully-fledged beautiful hard-backed book.

Christina was dedicated to compiling a book that went further than the standard recipe format. Instead she wanted a book that reflected the deep appreciation and love its contributors felt for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother as well as for the beautiful building of Mey. The book combines Christina's own love of food and cooking with her fascination with words and people.

"One NEVER counted one's calories: The Queen Mum's favourite recipes, including After Eight ice cream and tipsy tart".

Her favourite recipes came doused in double cream, expensive liqueurs and brandy syrups — and yet she lived to be 101. The Queen Mother had a remarkable appetite for food and drink. This week sees the publication of A Taste Of Mey, a collection of recipes — with a foreword written by the Prince of Wales — from former staff and guests at the Queen Mother's Scottish residence, the Castle of Mey.
